GPC Systems Win Contract for O2 Smart Cities Project

GPC Systems Win Contract for O2 Smart Cities Project

Smart Cities has been a hot topic in the industry over the last 5 years. Now more than ever, companies are partnering together to support and create smarter cities. A smart city is one that incorporates connectivity and ICT to improve the quality and efficiency of its transport systems, energy, planning and utilities and reduce both wastage and costs. The aim is to improve the quality of living for the city’s citizens, and save them money, using smart technology.

GPC were approached by Telefonica UK Limited (O2), to see whether our 3D Highways Measure solution (www.gpcsl.com/highways-highway-measure/) could support them in their research and development project, funded by ADEPT (Association of Directors of Environment, Economy, Planning, and Transport) and the Department for Transport.

The collaborative project will be working alongside O2 and other commercial stakeholders including; Siemens, Stantec, Smarter Grid Solutions and Shoothill, as well as six unitary authorities in Berkshire. The project will create a dashboard experience to collate and visualise data collected from a range of sensors, including road usage, road defects and air quality. Visualising the data together with predictive analysis will inform stakeholders in the creation of a proactive, smarter, safer environment for the city’s citizens.
